I started Growing Rose Therapy because I was tired of being overworked and underpaid in the mental health field. I fell in love with being a therapist the moment I entered graduate school. I found myself feeling excited to learn and felt deeply inspired by what I was learning. Graduate school was deeply impactful personally and professionally. Alongside learning the curriculum I started diving into my own weekly therapy. Since my early 20s I’ve been deeply committed to my own therapy and healing work.

Education is important, yes. How therapists care for their mental health is also deeply important.

I started providing therapy on a behavioral health team in Nashville, TN where I was able to provide therapy for clients enrolled in a suboxone clinic. I was able to personally witness how poverty and lack of resources can lead to increased mental health struggles. While therapy will always be essential…I always want to acknowledge this work is limiting without systemic change.

Alongside working in the clinic I also provided therapy on the college campus I attended school at. I knew from this experience that I thrived in a private practice setting. There is magic that happens in this type of therapeutic setting. I know it’s impactful because I’ve personally experienced the healing that can happen with a safe therapist.

I graduated and started working as a school-based therapist, providing individual, group, and family therapy primarily to LGBTQIA+ students.

I loved the healing work and the connections I made, but the financial reality was hard. I was barely making enough to cover my rent and found myself in traumatic experiences without support.

I had to utilize public assistance immediately after leaving graduate school. Providing therapy for these practices wasn’t enough to pay my bills, so how would this actually be sustainable?

I knew therapy was part of my soul purpose but capitalism and exploitation in the mental health field is unfortunately real.

I eventually took a six-month break to focus on other parts of my practice.

I moved to Colorado and became fully licensed as a licensed professional counselor.

I opened my practice, Growing Rose Therapy, in October 2023 and haven’t looked back since.

I’m so proud of my business and grateful for all the support I’ve received to make this dream a reality.

It means the world to me that I get to share my practice with you.
